Most of us have consumed honey, and many of us complement our diet plans by consuming essential bee by-products, including bee pollen. Interestingly, there are plenty of unique species of bees; which ones make honey and just what can other varieties of bees do?

There are actually just about 25,000 recognized types of bees world-wide, about 4,000 in the U.S. and all of these are actually categorized within the same superfamily. This superfamily consists of nine different groups, four of which are extremely small when it comes to the variety of species.

Most of us are familiar with one family – honey bees and bumblebees. Honey bees, obviously, create honey; these are communal bees that thrive in large colonies. These large colonies can harbor up to 60,000 worker bees or more, over 200 drones and a single queen. The honeybee hive is actually an incredibly complex unit in regards to behavior and general functionality. Honeybees live everyday focused on the survival of their colony rather than for individual survival.
